Visions of Versailles

Over the weekend, my roommates and I took a trip to the Palace of Versailles, one of the places I desperately wanted to visit while in France. Versailles is located roughly ten miles outside of Paris and requires a very manageable one-hour commute.

As a Rhode Islander and part-time Delawarean, I’ve seen some magnificent homes courtesy of the Newport and DuPont mansions. However, Versailles is an unfathomable celebration of wealth and extravagance that makes the previously mentioned properties seem attainable.

The Palace of Versailles is stunning beyond words but certainly not designed for the minimalist. Every surface is shrouded in some form of gold, marble, wallpaper, mural, molding, or a combination. I could spend hours sitting in a single room of Versailles and still feel like I haven’t examined all of the details.

Of everything I’ve seen so far, Versailles is my favorite place and will be my primary source of inspiration for the foreseeable future. Although my everyday style is more classic, I express my affection for intricate details and glamour through my fashion sketches. My trip to the Palace of Versailles reignited my creativity, and I will be spending the next few weeks transcribing all of the designs that went through my mind as I walked through each room.
