Sophomore Year Room Tour

Around this time last year, my friends and I were just starting to experience the stress of apartment hunting. Although at the time we had only known each other for a month and had barely adjusted to campus life, the off-campus housing process here starts at the beginning of September. We were fortunate enough to find an apartment, and even more fortunate that our friendship only continued to grow over freshman year. In addition to having the opportunity to live with some of my closest friends, I was very excited to decorate the apartment. Between my room at home (which is a hodgepodge of childhood leftovers and antique furniture) and my dorm last year, I have never had complete creative control. As my style has developed over the past few years, so has my interest in interior design and I’ve come to learn what my preferences are.

Organization and cohesiveness are key for me. I’m currently living in an apartment and sharing a room, so it's a fairly small space that could get easily cluttered. Fortunately, there’s plenty of closet space, and a few storage bins hiding under my bed that have helped me to maintain a neat room. As for cohesiveness, almost everything in my room is either pink, white, or gold. This combination has been my go-to for the past few years, so I was able to reuse most of my decorations from my dorm last year and a few items from my room back home as well.

My room is one area where I am truly unapologetic. My mood has always been greatly affected by my surroundings so I needed to create a space that best reflected my style and reminded me of things that make me happy. If you look close, you’ll discover that most of my pictures and decorations are travel or fashion related. Although it may seem impersonal, I'm my happiest when I’m exploring new places or pursuing a fashion project so looking at these images evokes a sense of excitement.

The decoration process was not seamless. In all honesty, it was stressful. I spent hours over the summer trying to find affordable furniture that fit the theme of my room. To top it all off, the delivery company lost all my furniture so I spent my first week in the apartment sleeping on the floor and trying to find furniture last minute. Needless to say, everything worked itself out, and I love how my room turned out!

There isn't too much going on in this section of my room, but it is my personal favorite. This is my take on a vertical gallery wall accompanied by my infamous pink boots with flowers. I love this area primarily because the photos serve as a source of inspiration for me. Half of the photos represent the places I want to go, and the other half represents the things I want to create.

Unfortunately, most of my room decor has been accumulated throughout the years and is no longer available for purchase. However, I've linked similar items below. For reference, all of my pillows are from Homegoods, the fake flowers are from Michael's, and the photos were printed off of Pinterest.
