Junior/Senior Year Room Tour

It's been less than a year since I moved into my last apartment, and I've already moved, decorated, and settled into my new home for the remaining two years of college. Ever since signing the lease for this apartment last August, I've been eagerly counting down the days until my friends and I could move in and begin making memories! Although I miss not living with some of my friends/former roommates, going from a group of six to a group of three has its benefits. For starters, more fridge space, which has already proven to be a tremendous life improvement. Secondly, everyone has their own rooms!

If you read last year's room tour, you may recall how I spent weeks over the summer searching for room décor and figuring out how to decorate my half of the room. Fortunately, all that work saved me a lot of time this year. Except for a new desk, a rug, some curtains, and a few more prints and picture frames, I reused everything I had from my previous apartment. Even though most of my furniture and decorations are the same as last year, the layout and features of my new room complement my style so perfectly it makes me feel like everything is brand new. I've never been good at labeling my interior design style (I just know what I like and don't like), so instead, I will use a direct quote from my roommate's grandmother to summarize the general aesthetic: "Ahh, so this is the princess room." So yes, this is me living out my five-year-old dream of being the next Cinderella.

As far as the color scheme goes, I kept the pink, white, and gold palette because I love that combination, and it's pretty much all I own. However, this year I did want to change things up a little bit. Aside from pink, I love blue, more specifically, French blue. I spent a few weeks toying with different ways to add blue accents without making the room look like a cotton candy mishap and eventually settled on using the rug and gallery wall to add a touch of blue.

At one point, I've loved every room I've ever lived in, but this room is by far is my favorite. As it turns out, the night I finished decorated I became sick and was bedridden for the entire week. During that week, my mom and I joked that, at the very least, I was in a beautiful room. While I was still pretty miserable, I like to think I would have been even more miserable had I been in a different or unfinished room.

I love letting as much natural light in as possible, but since my room faces a busy main street, my mom suggested we hang sheers so I can still open the blinds without people being able to see inside.

One of my favorite features of this room is the built-in shelves. And..., of course, the little cubby that just so happens to be the perfect size for my rainboots :). Originally the closet was open, but we hung drapes using a shower rod.

For the most part, I use the shelves as a decorative feature, but the second shelf on the right side holds all my accessories. For my hair scarves, I put push pins in the back wall, then tied a loose knot in the scarves so they could hang on the tack.

Since my room is an octagon, there's not much room between my bed and my desk. When I'm not sitting at my desk, I move my chair near the window to give me more walking room, and it also creates a peaceful reading nook.

I'm very proud of my gallery wall. I reused a few pictures that I printed off Pinterest last year (in the smaller frames) and the London print. As for the other four, three of them are wallpaper samples (only $3-$7 each), and the hydrangea print is wrapping paper, all from Rifle Paper Co. Getting larger pictures developed or purchasing art prints can get expensive. For less than $25, I was able to get four high-quality "pictures" that look like actual art prints.

Most of my room décor has been accumulated throughout the years and is no longer available for purchase. However, I've linked similar items below. For reference, all of my pillows are from Homegoods, the fake flowers are from Michael's, and a few photos were printed off of Pinterest.
